When it was released in theaters, we saw a PG-13 cut of M3GAN, but the upcoming digital release will deliver the unrated cut. It has been teased that an R-rated cut was awaiting from writer Akela Cooper, but now we have confirmation that we will see this brutal version on February 24 on Peacock. Its physical release on Blu-ray and DVD hit shelves on March 21.
The PG-13 version was made for various reasons. One of which was how viral M3GAN went due to the dance scene, thus ditching the unrated version that was being worked on. What we know is that this version will be “way gorier” with a significantly higher body count. The original cut gave hints of this as some scenes pushed the PG-13 rating, and other scenes cut away to let your imagination soar into horrific heights.

Along with this news, we have a list of the bonus features. There will be a behind-the-scenes look, including interviews with the cast and crew as they break down this killer doll flick. A part of that will see how M3GAN comes to life between puppeteering, animatronics, and two actors (Annie Donald for the physical performance and Jenna Davis voicing the vicious doll). A part of the making of the film will be an in-depth look at the stunts and kills.
Universal will continue the success of M3GAN now that it goes to new platforms with its unrated cut. Its theatrical run has been a smash hit, as it has grossed $167 million. It slashing up theaters worldwide earned it a sequel, with leading stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw reprising their roles. The sequel, M3GAN 2.0, will release on January 17, 2025.
The story of the film came from James Wan, with Cooper writing the script. It was directed by Gerard Johnstone.
