The first trailer for CBS’s reboot of MacGyver has been released, sporting all the fun, light, and goofy action you’d expect.
Starring X-Men‘s Lucas Till as the titular character, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation‘s George Eads as Jack Dalton, Joshua Boone as Gunner, and Vampire Diaries‘ Tristin Mays as Riley Davis.
The trailer shows the characters using their skills in unison, as they work together to complete various missions. Macgyver being “the brains”, Dalton “the muscle”, Sandrine Holt’s Patricia Thornton as “the boss”, Gunner “the best friend”, and Davis as “the hacker”.
MacGyver originally aired on ABC from 1985 to 1992, spawning over 130 episodes and 2 made for TV movies. The show revolved around Angus MacGyver, a man known for applying practical science and common everyday items to make his way out of seemingly impossible problems, usually in life-or-death situations. The show was praised for providing entertaining story lines while also putting an emphasis on ensuring a basis of scientific principles.
The 2016 series sees Angus “Mac” MacGyver assemble a team of talented individuals within the U.S. government to solve unsolvable problems with their unconventional skills and knowledge.
The project has seen a handful of show runners and executive producers come and go due to scheduling conflicts. Henry Winkler, the producer of the original series is also producing the reboot, alongside The Conjuring 2 and Aquaman director James Wan and ER writer R. Scott Gemmill. The pilot was written by American playwright Paul Downs Colaizzo and was originally going to be directed by Wan, although Wan had to pull out due to scheduling conflicts.
In June 2016 it was revealed the studio scrapped the original pilot, and ordered a new one, with James Wan ultimately returning.
MacGyver currently has no air date for the pilot, but the trailer promises it will be air this fall.
