The plan was to have Maggie debut at the Toronto International Film Festival back in September, but when Lionsgate snatched up the distribution rights prior to the premiere, the film was pulled from the lineup. Now instead the movie is having its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 22nd, just before its May 8th limited release. The movie stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as Wade, a small-town farmer who’s devastated to find out his daughter Maggie (Abigail Breslin) is infected. Even though she grows increasingly dangerous as her condition worsens, Wade vows to defy the authorities and protect her no matter what.
With Tribeca fast approaching, Lionsgate just unveiled the very first Maggie trailer and it certainly got my attention. It’s hard not to expect a very specific type of film when it involves zombies, but it looks as though first time feature director Henry Hobson is taking an especially dark, character-driven approach to the material.
There’s a deadly zombie epidemic threatening humanity, but Wade (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a small-town farmer and family man, refuses to accept defeat even when his daughter Maggie (Abigail Breslin) becomes infected. As Maggie’s condition worsens and the authorities seek to eradicate those with the virus, Wade is pushed to the limits in an effort to protect her. Joely Richardson co-stars in this post-apocalyptic thriller.
