Since acquiring the rights to publish comics based on the Alien franchise earlier this year, Marvel has been re-releasing some classic Alien stories. There was the promise of new stories in the universe, but nothing concrete had been revealed, until now. Marvel has today announced that Alien #1 will release in March 2021, promising to venture into never before seen corners of the Alien universe.
The book is written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson (Empyre: Captain America) with artwork by Salvador Larroca (Doctor Doom) and will feature both new, and classic characters in a story that will entertain new and existing fans. At least according to Marvel.
The new book will feature Gabriel Cruz, a Weyland-Yutani mercenary who battles a new breed of Xenomorph with the survival of his child in the balance. Johnson had this to say following the announcement:
Just as a reader and fan, I was as excited as anyone when I heard the franchise was coming to Marvel, and when they asked me to WRITE THE LAUNCH, I was floored. I’ve been training my whole life for this gig without knowing it. Ever since seeing Ridley Scott’s Alien at way too young an age, I’ve been obsessed with the Xenomorph.”
With such a fan in charge, hopefully, he’ll do the franchise credit in March. He’s not the only fan on board though as Larroca also stated that drawing what has been his favorite sci-fi horror reference has been like a dream come true.
Any further information is relatively thin on the ground at this stage, but it’s exciting none the less. The announcement does say to stay tuned for more exciting Alien (as well as Predator) comic news to come in the future, which we will bring you when it comes in.
In the meantime, be sure to let me know your thoughts on this announcement in the comments, as well as your favorite Alien comics, so far.
