WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Marvel Contagion #4 and minor spoilers for issues 1-3.
For the past few months, the Marvel comic Universe has been in turmoil as the mysterious contagion has been taking over New York City and even claiming some of Marvel’s best superheroes as its own. The plague started beneath the streets of New York in the temples of K’un-Lun and has been slowly claiming victims in the subterranean race, the Moloids, taking them under what seems to be a hive-mind. The contagion initially found a host in The Urchin and claimed our favorite heroes such as Dr. Strange, The Fantastic Four, and Luke Cage! When it first appeared in the underneath New York it was able to make quick work of The Fantastic Four, Marvel’s first family didn’t stand much of a chance as the contagion has the ability to replicate the heroes powers. It demonstrated the ability to replicate the character’s voices and split up and confuse the Four as they fell one by one. Only Ben Grimm AKA The Thing was able to power through and fight since he has some sort of immunity to the contagion.
At first, We find out that the infected just have to touch people in order to spread the virus and we where lead to believe the contagion was just feeding on the bodies of our unconscious heroes, slowly becoming stronger. Now it has been able to break out of the barrier used to keep it contained in New York and has claimed more and more of the Marvel Universes’ strongest heroes, even The Avengers have fallen to the plague. The worst part for the remaining heroes of Marvel is that the now that the contagion has gotten stronger it now has the ability to control the minds of its hosts!
With the latest issue of the Marvel comic series, the contagion is now free to run wild across the world. So far only The Thing has been immune to the virus, we’ll have to see if he’ll be able to take on an army of his former allies by himself.
