Comic Book Resources shared an exclusive preview of Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto’s Daredevil #1. Marvel restarts Zdarsky’s Daredevil with new numbering fresh off the heels of Devil’s Reign. In the preview, Matt Murdock narrates his departure from the Big Apple as he fights alongside Spider-Man and declares him the sole guardian of the city.
Daredevil and Spider-Man. My friend. The man who will keep this city safe, give others hope.
The first issue in the “Red Fist Saga” begins with Matt speaking to an unseen person with a brief glimpse of Elektra and Punisher. Frank Castle, currently working with the Hand, isn’t seen beyond a solitary panel in the preview. However, Elektra is up to something with an old friend.
What Happens in the Marvel Preview?
The issue begins with Matt Murdock, covered in shadows and a beard, speaking with a person off-panel. This opening page takes place after Matt left New York because the unseen person asks:
And what has it cost them? What has it cost you? What did you leave behind in New York, Daredevil?
The following page cuts to Matt and Spider-Man fighting notable villain Hammerhead and his henchman. His first line here is, “I’m leaving New York.” There’s no mention of why he’s leaving the city he has been protecting since his inception, but we know he’s working with Elektra. Elektra parachutes onto an unknown island in the last pages of the preview.
When she lands, dawning her Daredevil outfit from “A New Devil in Town”, her old mentor Stick greets her. Elektra pulls off her best Gandalf the Grey impression when accused of being late:
I’m running The Fist, Stick. When I show up, whatever time it may be, it’s on time.
