When comic book giant Marvel teased a possible tie-in comic with American global aerospace and defense technology company Northrop Grumman, fans didn’t waste any time voicing their displeasure with the idea. While the comic with the largest defense contractors in the world was eventually nixed, there’s still plenty of information regarding what the partnership would have looked like.
Going by the name of Avengers, Featuring N.G.E.N, the comic would see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes teaming up with Northrop Grumman’s Elite Nexus. The team would feature four members who specialize in cutting-edge, hi-tech adventures.
Alongside promotions for Grumman, the comic would also see the Nexus upstaging The Avengers as well. According to a recent report by io9, a running theme of the comic would have been that the Marvel characters would be put in precarious situations that even they couldn’t solve, while N.G.E.N and their expertise would be able to save the day.
In a public statement, Marvel detailed that while it may have made its characters look a bit weak, the collaboration was simply meant to help further aerospace technology and exploration.
“The activation with Northrop Grumman at New York Comic Con was meant to focus on aerospace technology and exploration in a positive way. However, as the spirit of that intent has not come across, we will not be proceeding with this partnership including this weekend’s event programming. Marvel and Northrop Grumman continue to be committed to elevating, and introducing, STEM to a broad audience.”
