Sure, sure, Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers isn’t exactly in the best state right now. Especially since Crystal Dynamics decided to slow down the end-game grind for some reason. Still, for you who are still holding onto hope for better days, in today’s Square Enix Present the company announced that the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Marvel’s Avengers launches today, with Black Panther coming to the game as a part of War for Wakanda story expansion DLC sometime later this year. The team is also currently working on post-level-50 progression, outfits inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and multiplayer Megahives.
This “biggest content drop since launch” will feature King T’Challa as a playable character, his nemesis Klaw, the Wakandan jungle biome, new enemies, a new Outpost, a Power Level cap increase, and more. The trailer doesn’t reveal much though. Just showing parts of the jungle and the city of Wakanda under fire in the distance while Ulysses Klaue aka Klaw talking about trading an army for vibranium over the whole thing. It ends with Black Panther dropping in, all dressed up for battle, and yelling, “Avengers, with me!” You can watch the whole 1-minute teaser trailer below.
Furthermore, as mentioned before, aside from the upcoming Black Panther DLC, Marvel’s Avengers is releasing on PS5 and Xbox Series X with a free upgrade and cross-generation play features. Players who own the PS4 or Xbox One version of the game will be able to upgrade to the full next-gen version at no additional cost. You can transfer data from the previous-gen console to pick up right where you left off as well. And considering both the new PlayStation and Xbox consoles are still hard to find to this day, cross-gen matchmaking will let PS5 players connect with their friends on PS4, while Xbox Series X users play with Xbox One.
The next-gen versions are also packed with additional visual and performance improvements. Check out a detailed comparison of the specs for the PS5 and the Xbox Series X release of Marvel’s Avengers together with the launch trailer below.
With the addition of Kate Bishop and Black Panther, so far the DLC leak from last year seems to be on point. Who else are you waiting for to be added into the game; Ant-Man, Winter Soldier, or Scarlet Witch and Vision, maybe? Let us know in the comments.
