Marvel’s Runaways has been removed from Hulu and Disney+ without warning. Last week, Disney+ revealed that several shows would be removed in its first content purge. Some of those shows include The Mysterious Benedict Society, Willow, Just Beyond, and The World According to Jeff Goldblum. While Runaways was not included on that list, The Direct reports that it was abruptly removed from Disney+ and Hulu, where it originated. It was recently revealed that a content merge between the two streaming services was planned for later this year. Whether this abrupt removal of so much content is related is unknown. However, Runaways is one of many shows leaving both platforms.

Hulu also purged much of its content recently. CBR reports that Hulu said goodbye to The Premise, Love in the Time of Corona, Everything’s Trash, Best in Snow, Best in Dough, and more. The content purging on both platforms was scheduled for yesterday, May 26. What makes Runaways unique is that there is no warning about its removal. The show is still available for purchase from digital platforms such as AppleTV and Amazon, although the latter does not have the second season available.
Runaways was released on Hulu in 2017. It ended in 2019 after three seasons. It is centered on a group of teenagers who rebel against their supervillain parents. The show did have a fanbase, earning an 84% critic rating and 69% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Unfortunately, the show ended with a cliffhanger that will never be resolved.
While it has not been announced why Hulu and Disney+ did away with Runaways, one can’t help but wonder if there are any plans to reboot the series. Disney owns the MCU, and they may opt to reboot Runaways to connect it to the franchise. No such project has been announced as of yet.
