Insomniac Games seem to really enjoy Marvel. Not content with simply creating one of the best superhero games in Marvel’s Spider-Man, or even announcing that they’re working on a game about the X-Men’s Wolverine, but now they’ve just announced during the recent PlayStation Showcase that they’re working on a Spider-Man sequel. It’s a few years off though – Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 won’t grace our shiny 4K screens until sometime in 2023. That’s no issue – games take a while to develop, and taking your time is better for the development team and the game itself.
The story of Peter Parker and Miles Morales (with both Yuri Lowenthal and Nadji Jeter returning to voice their respective characters) will continue in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. We also got a brief tease about a villain from Spider-Man lore that will be making their appearance in the upcoming sequel. Perhaps it’s down to Sony wanting to make people remember that they’re making films about Venom, or just that he’s one of Spider-Man’s most iconic villains, but yeah, Venom’s here.
The Iron Spider arms will also be making their appearance as evident in the above trailer, which will open up new combo possibilities, something that was one of the major positives (of which there were many) of the first Spider-Man and the Miles Morales DLC. The game will be exclusive to PlayStation 5; sorry PS4 players, but it looks like we’re going to have to watch out for some new PS5 stock drops. Hopefully by 2023 things will be better in terms of getting a hold of a current-generation console, especially when Sony is insisting on the separation between console generations.
