Marvel has announced a new one-shot as part of this year’s Marvel’s Voices: Pride. X-Men: The Wedding Special #1 comes from writer Kieron Gillen and celebrates the nuptials of Mystique and Destiny. Currently, the X-Men are dealing with the Fall of X, which is ushering out the Krakoa era. This has been a tumultuous and violent time for mutants and has been particularly rough on Mystique and Destiny. The two lovers have been at the heart of many big events during this time. Now, a special edition will give the two lovebirds a wedding worthy of an X-Man.
X-Men: The Wedding Special
This Marvel’s Voices one-shot is the first woman-to-woman wedding in Marvel history. The issue will focus on the history of Raven Darkholme and Irene Adler as they find each other in the world. As the longest-lasting same-sex relationship in the Marvel Universe, this history spans over a century. It all leads up to the wedding, which is actually a vow renewal ceremony as the two are already married. However, fans shouldn’t worry as the issue features the actual wedding between the couple.
Writer Kieron Gillen is just happy he gets the opportunity to give these two a happy ending. After all, many of their terrible times were done by his pen. As with other installments of Marvel’s Voices, the wedding one-shot features an amazing lineup of LGBTQIA+ talent. This includes Tini Howard and Wyatt Kennedy, as well as the Marvel debut of writers Tate Brombal and Yoon Ha Lee. These stories will focus on fan-favorite characters like Betsy Braddock, Rachel Summers, and Loki.
Marvel’s Voices: Pride
Marvel’s Voices: Pride began back in 2022 and gave Marvel the opportunity to focus on queer stories and storytelling. The stories told in these annual anthologies featured LGBTQIA+ characters like Wiccan and Hulkling, Iceman, and Mystique and Destiny. Now, this event is breaking ground with Mystique and Destiny’s wedding. However, it wouldn’t be a Marvel story if it didn’t feature some party crashers, villains, and good old-fashioned romance.
