EA has now confirmed that they will not be releasing Mass Effect: Andromeda until the first quarter of 2017. While the next space RPG game in this series was originally scheduled for a late 2016 launch, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen has revealed that they will be waiting until 2017 instead. Its been four years since the last Mass Effect, and the unveil of the new game sparked a lot of interest at last year’s E3.
Jorgensen mentioned this news of a delay in a presentation during the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference. While little has been said about the game itself, Jorgensen listed the new Mass Effect: Andromeda among other upcoming games for EA. Jorgensen said,
“We’ve got a great year ahead… we’ve got our Battlefield first-person shooter game coming in the third quarter, and our third-party title that Respawn, our partner, built, it’s called Titanfall, it’s the second title that they brought into that brand…. We have our Mirror’s Edge runner game this first quarter, and then we have Mass Effect, which is a sci-fi action game, in our fourth quarter. So big year ahead and we’re pretty excited.”
The fiscal fourth quarter that Jorgensen mentions actually translates to around the beginning of 2017. Since the game was headed for a holiday 2016 release anyway, the delay really doesn’t seem to be all that long. Yet for fans of the series, Mass Effect: Andromeda couldn’t get here any faster. And for those who were hoping to get the game for Christmas, it looks like you’ll have to settle for something else instead.
