Director Matt Reeves shared a shot of Gotham City shot from the upcoming trailer for The Batman. The shot features Robert Pattinson’s Batman in silhouette looking down at Gotham City as the sun goes down. The Wrap reports that this is looking to be a different take on Gotham City considering that most of the film was shot in London. Along with this image, fans got another teaser for the trailer via the film’s Twitter page. This tweet features a glimpse of Pattinson’s Batman voice:

This growling and menacing tone makes sense given the many reports that this new take on Batman is more of a horror film. Early screenings have suggested that the presently three-hour film is very dark and scary, with Paul Dano’s Riddler, in particular, being far more terrifying. The villain has typically been hammy in previous portrayals (i.e. Jim Carrey), so it will be interesting to see a darker version of the villain.
The trailer for The Batman will be released at DC FanDome this Saturday. The film will feature Bruce Wayne in his second year as the Dark Knight trying to solve a mystery surrounding murders carried out by the Riddler. Zoe Kravitz will also appear as Selina Kyle, a.k.a. Catwoman, and Colin Farrell will have a small bit as Oswald Cobblepot, a.k.a. the Penguin.
The film was set to be released this year, but numerous factors including Pattinson contracting COVID-19 have been curveballs in the production process. The film is now planned to be released on March 4, 2022.
