AMC has renewed Mayfair Witches for season 2. This continues its time adapting Anne Rice’s stories like Interview with the Vampire, which was also renewed. It did not reach the viewership heights of the vampire series as that is the highest viewed season on AMC+ within its first 30 days, but its respectable viewership will see the continuation of the Anne Rice Immortal Universe.
The AMC series is an adaption of the trilogy Lives of the Mayfair Witches. The story follows a neurosurgeon (Alexandra Daddario) who finds out she is the heir to a family of witches. She is thrust into a dark world to overcome something that has loomed over her family for generations.
Production on season 2 will begin later this year in New Orleans.
AMC renewed Mayfair Witches for season 2
Leading star Daddario broke out with HBO’s White Lotus season 1. She stars with Tongayi Chirisa (iZombie), Jack Huston (Fargo), Harry Hamlin (Mad Men), and Beth Grant (Amsterdam).
Michelle Ashford (Masters of Sex) created the series and served as a writer and executive producer for the AMC adaption of Mayfair Witches. She executive produces with Jeff Freilich, Michael Goldbach, Michael Uppendahl, Jessica Held, Mark Johnson, Sean Reycraft, and Esta Spalding. Uppendahl also serves as one of the show’s directors.
The reception of the AMC take on Mayfair Witches has not seen the acceptance as Interview with the Vampire. The series has a 46% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and 58% from audiences. Critics find that the cast is strong, particularly with Daddario and Grant, and its visuals are beautiful. Other than that, they largely found it to be a disservice to the book while taking missteps with the tone and themes about the oppression of women.
Mayfair Witches premiered on AMC and AMC+ on January 8. The renewal comes right on the final stretch of the nine-episode season. The sixth episode will hit on February 12 at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET.
