Developer Piranha Games announced today that preorders for MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries are finally available on the Epic Games Store. The game is the classic MechWarrior series first single-player campaign-focused outing in over 17 years.
Preorders for the game will come in two flavors: Standard and Deluxe. The $49.99 Standard Edition will come packed with a full game download of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries and a PDF of its game manual. The Deluxe Edition, on the other hand, is where the real goodies come out to play. For $59.99, you’ll get the full game, digital game manual, digital technical BattleTech manual, the game’s digital soundtrack, and a digital 4k desktop pack. The digital game manual is a comprehensive breakdown of mechanics and features in MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries while the digital technical manual contains some sick-nasty imagery and information about the equipment and Mechs you’ll use to bring the heat while you play.
MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries’ gameplay style takes a page from MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries, allowing players an immense amount of freedom to take on baddies and run their campaigns however they’d like. The game will allow pilots to build, manage, and guide their mercenary units however they see fit, tackling a sprawling, multi-year campaign set during the Third and Fourth Succession Wars. If you’ve played previous games in the MechWarrior series and you’ve been left wanting more, you can set any worries of content and customizability at ease; Piranha Games says MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will offer players the most freedom and choice in series history.
Pilots won’t have to go it alone, of course. Players have the opportunity to bring in AI-controlled pilots to back them up on missions or bring in up to three friends to bring a little bit of mech-battling goodness to game night. That’s good, since MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries promises to pose a significant challenge, with no one right answer to the challenges you’ll face.
