In his slow comeback to Hollywood, Mel Gibson is set to star in Lionsgate’s The Continental, a John Wick prequel series made for Starz. John Wick is an immensely successful action film franchise, with Keanu Reeves in the titular role. The prequel has been talked about since 2017 with sparce details thrown out about its plotline. It will revolve around young Winston Scott (played by Ian McShane), a long-time confidant of John Wick. Mel Gibson will play a character named Cormac in the prequel series.
The Continental will address the origin story of the hotel-for-assassins. Instead of the story following John Wick, this will follow Winston Scott. He will encounter many dangerous obstacles in his quest to gain control of the enigmatic hotel. It is being presented as three-night special event television series.
Mel Gibson Comeback
Long before his casting in the John Wick prequel series, the Australian actor has had a rough road. Gibson first started his career in the Australian drama series The Sullivans from 1976 to 1983. He really turned heads when he played the main role in George Miller’s Mad Max movies. The actor reached global stardom from his roles in the Lethal Weapon film series and Braveheart. Gibson even achieved praise for his directing work of the film Apocalypto. Gibson became a Hollywood pariah after his offensive views were brought to light. He may not be in as high regard as he once was but has been steadily getting more work.
Mel Gibson made his directing comeback for the film Hacksaw Ridge, which won two Academy Awards. Now Mel Gibson will join the John Wick film franchise that has grossed more than $600 million worldwide. It’s not clear how integral Gibson’s character, Cormac will be in the movie. At least he will have his name connected to a successful franchise.
Fans will be eager to see the origins of The Continental, and how Cormac will play into it.
