Pokemon Go‘s Niantic is delivering on a promise they made long before the game was actually a reality. Mewtwo has finally made an appearance in the game; however, don’t expect to find this legendary pocket monster out in the wild and don’t expect it to stick around for long.
In order to catch this very special Pokemon, you must receive an invitation to its Exclusive Raid Battles. According to Niantic’s blog :
To receive an invitation to participate in an Exclusive Raid Battle, Trainers must have successfully completed a raid recently, by defeating the Raid Boss, at the Gym where the Exclusive Raid Battle will be taking place. The invitations will include advance warning of when the Exclusive Raid will take place, giving them ample time to coordinate with other Trainers before taking on the powerful Raid Boss.
Mewtwo first made an appearance in Yokohama, Japan during a Pokémon Go Stadium event where players were invited to the world’s very first Mewtwo Raid Battle. Every trainer who was able to beat the legendary Pokemon went home with one. Mewtwo isn’t the first legendary to become available though. Lugia was also released during the mess that was Pokemon Go Fest. But due to some major issues on Niantic’s part, players couldn’t work together to take him down. Also, the three legendary birds- Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres- can be found throughout the game until the end of this month.
After the total disaster that was Pokemon Go fest, Niantic definitely owed its fans a little something special. It is still unclear as to when we will see Mewtwo popping into raids in the US, but keep an eye out for your own special invitation!
