She played the lead role in “To Leslie.” Somehow a social media campaign including praises for her work earned her a surprise nomination at the Oscars.
Following an investigation by the Academy, the body set a rule against such publicity that singled out the competition by name or title.

Michelle Yeoh Violates Academy Rules But Deletes Her Post
Michelle Yeoh violates Academy Rules by sharing a Vogue article that points out possible racism in the entertainment industry.
The title read “It’s Been Over Two Decades Since We’ve Had a Non-White Best Actress Winner. Will That Change in 2023?”
Yeoh, who became the first Asian actress to win a SAG for her performance in “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” shared a nine-slide shot referencing Cate Blanchett.
For this same movie, she was nominated alongside Blanchett, who starred in “Tàr.” It talked about Blanchett, who has more than one Oscar award.
The article explained that she is already a noteworthy veteran in the game but that it would be her first Oscar and a game-changer if Yeoh wins the category.
According to the publication:
“It should result in her getting meatier parts, after a decade of being criminally underused in Hollywood.”
Fans reacted to the post, some defending her, while others tagged her as messy. Yeoh’s post was only hours ahead of the vote closing time for the Academy.
However, Michelle Yeoh deleted her Instagram post, and the conclusion was that it might have conflicted with the rules of the Academy.
