Social media has its fair share of silly and even insane gender reveals. From people getting the police called on them to being injured. Gender reveals get out of hand at times as people try to welcome a new family member. For one couple in Michigan, planning a gender reveal party for a relative involved a wife sending her husband to the store for blue and pink supplies. While he technically did his job, the decorations were for something entirely different.
The video was shared by @thebrandonrobert on TikTok with the caption, “When he realizes those aren’t gender reveal flags.” Brandon (the husband) reveals to his wife, “I literally had to go to four stores for decorations today.” When she asks, “Decorations for what?” he responds by thinking she’s playing a prank on him. He’s sitting with little trans pride flags in front of him, and at this point, it becomes evident to us that Robert thinks they’re for a gender reveal.
When Robert explains to his wife, “We’re going to see if it’s a boy or a girl” she hilariously asks, “Who? The baby or you?” When she asks him if he knows what the flag means, he explains that the store even had a “cape.” Robert then reveals a huge trans pride flag on the table where he’s been organizing things. At this point, his wife is standing there with her hand over her mouth, looking dumbfounded.
To add to the wholesomeness, he says he’s going to be the “best uncle in the world.” He then shows her that he even “got flags for all the little kids.” To prove his point, he holds up the little trans pride flags to proudly show her. When his wife explains what the flag means, he doesn’t quite seem to believe her.
Commenters thought the mix-up was hilarious but also sweet in its own way. One person said, “He’s so innocent” while another added, “No no – dude those are for the SECOND gender reveal, not the first!” because, as people become comfortable in their gender identity, they will sometimes choose to have a gender reveal party as a way to celebrate their new chosen identity.
As more and more people come out as their true selves, I say keep the cute gender reveals going! Everybody deserves a chance to be who they are in this lifetime. As for Robert and his wife, we hope that they had fun at the party, pride flags or not.
