Bethesda greenlit a hands-on preview of their upcoming Vampire-themed FPS Redfall. It’s safe to say that the game looks super crisp in terms of gameplay and visuals. We all know that the title is coming to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Gamepass, but did you know that Redfall was canceled for PlayStation 5 (PS5)? Keep reading to find out more.
Redfall Was Also Planned For PlayStation 5
It was revealed in a news report by IGN France where Redfall’s game designer Harvey Smith stated that Microsoft had a strong stance on Redfall coming to the PlayStation 5 (PS5). The developers were already working on a PlayStation 5 port, but following the acquisition, Microsoft redirected their direction.
“We were acquired by Microsoft and it was a change with [a] capital C,” Smith told the website during a recent press event (via Google Translate). “They came in and they said ‘No PlayStation 5, we’re focusing on Xbox, PC, and the Game Pass.’” – Harvey Smith
Considering the fact that they’re now under Microsoft’s thumb, Harvey ultimately stated that removing Redfall from PlayStation 5 turned out to be a good decision. It’s a good move to spruce up Xbox’s already viable GamePass subscription, plus there’s one less platform from the equation to worry about, at least, in Harvey’s words.
We don’t know if Harvey was sincere with his words. This revelation also begs to question. Would Microsoft really remove Call of Duty from PlayStation if the Activision-Blizzard deal works in their favor? Microsoft says no, but we don’t know what the company would do in the aftermath.
So what do you think of this new revelation regarding Redfall being canceled for PlayStation 5 (PS5)? Will Microsoft do the same with Call of Duty if regulatory bodies go through with the acquisition? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Stay tuned for more updates on TheNerdStash!
