Today, Microsoft has announced (via Xbox Wire) a partnership with the immensely popular messaging app, Discord. “Starting Soon” Xbox Insiders will be able to link their Discord accounts to their Xbox Live profiles.
Here is an excerpt from the post, written by General Manager of Xbox Live Daniel McCulloch, that explains Microsoft’s reasoning behind this new partnership:
“Connecting with friends is such a big part of why people game. Gamers all over the world use and love Discord to easily chat and connect with friends while they game. In the coming weeks, this collaboration will make it easier for gamers to choose to do just that – make it easier to connect and see what friends are playing across console and PC. It’s part of the work we are doing to provide gamers with more choice, allowing them to play how and where they want to.”
When this feature becomes available (again, for Insiders first), all you have to do is open account settings on your Xbox One and select “Linked Social Accounts”. You should see a new option to link your profile to your Discord account. Finally, you will receive a code from Microsoft. Sign in to your Discord account and enter that code in the connections section under user settings.
For PC or Mobile users, this process is far more simple. Just open up your profile on Discord and go to the connections section. Once you’re there, you should see an option to link your Xbox Live account.
Discord is coming to Xbox Live soon but what do you think about it? Do you use Discord (by the way if you do, you can join our server here) or is this announcement not a big deal? Let us know in the comments and be sure to follow us here at The Nerd Stash for all of your nerdy news and needs!
