Mighty No. 9 has been on the tail end of a lot of online backlashes the last few months. After being a massive success on Kickstarter in 2015, the game has hit a number of snags in the road of development that have caused delays.
The game will finally release next month, on June 21st.Keiji Inafune’s new development studio Comcept is behind the project. It’s one that clearly looks influenced by his former beloved franchise, Mega Man. To get people hyped for the launch, the development and marketing teams have joined together to make a pretty interesting trailer:

Say what you will about game trailers, but I find most of them (ahem, COD, ahem) are just filled will big CG/cutscenes. That seems to work for marketers, though. For Comcept, it appears as though they really want to let you know what Mighty No. 9 is “supposed to be about.” Just 45 or so seconds into the trailer, you’re bombarded with phrases like “crazy addictive” and asking “do you like things that are awesome? Then you gotta play this game dude.”
Maybe it’s an approach to try and hype up people who didn’t back the insanely successful $3.8-million Kickstarter campaign. Maybe they’re going for the retro-80’s/90’s trailer feel we used to get for a lot of our favorite cult classic movies. Whatever the reason, just based on the YouTube stats, 1,800 Likes versus 14,000 Dislikes isn’t a good sign.
The backers of this game have been through enough, here’s hoping that the game will deliver on its promises and actually is a blast to play.
Mighty No. 9 is a side-scrolling action game that takes the best elements from 8- and 16-bit classics you know and love and transforms them with modern tech, fresh mechanics and fan input into something fresh and amazing!
