Cocoa beans are essential if you ever want to make cookies in Minecraft. But if you don’t have a sweet tooth, you can always use them to make brown dye as well. The trick, though, is figuring out how to farm them. It turns out that cocoa is a lot harder to grow than just planting it in the ground. In this guide, you’ll learn how to grow cocoa beans and have as many as you could ever want.
How to Farm Cocoa Beans
To farm cocoa beans, first, you need to venture inside a jungle biome. Inside the jungle, you should find jungle wood with growing pods of cocoa on them. You’ll know you have what you’re looking for when you see large orange/brown pods hanging against the side of some jungle wood. These pods will yield two to three cocoa beans, so harvest as many of these pods as you can.
While you are at it, also harvest as much jungle wood as you can. Cocoa beans can only grow on jungle wood and you will need quite a bit of it if you want a high yield. Make your way back to your farm and begin placing your jungle wood. There are many different designs you can set up for your cocoa farm, but for now, let’s start with the simplest version.
Our Other Minecraft Guides
Because cocoa pods grow on the side of jungle wood, it would be best to make pillars of the stuff. Think of it as making your own tiny controlled jungle. Don’t make them too high, or you will have a hard time harvesting the cocoa beans at the top.
Once you have your jungle set up, place your cocoa beans along the sides. The cocoa pods that come from the beans have three stages of growth. The first is a tiny green pod that will grow into a slightly larger tan pod. The last stage is the orange/brown pod that you first saw in the beginning. If you want to make these pods grow faster, you’ll need Bone Meal. Applying Bone Meal to each pod will accelerate the growth of each pod, but you will need a lot.
After each pod has grown to the final stage, just harvest them with your axe, and you will have all the cocoa beans you desire. Make sweets, such as cookies, or use the beans as a way to have brown dye. Either way, by the end of your farming adventure, you will have enough beans to do with as you’d like.
