Minecraft is, of course, the survival exploration sandbox game that took the world by storm with searches for the game peaking in 2013. It was created by Markus “Notch” Persson and officially released in 2011. Since then, Jens Bergensten has taken over development at Mojang Studios. It has won a multitude of awards and is cited as being one of the most influential video games of all time, and currently holds the record of the best selling video game of all time. Since 2011, the game has had dozens of updates and expansions, all for free. Some notable ones include the Halloween Update and The Redstone update, which gave players the power to make weird and wonderful contraptions, even working calculators, all using logic gates in-game.
Now we have information regarding the next content update announced during Minecraft Live, called Caves and Cliffs. The update is going to add new blocks, mobs, and structures. One particularly interesting part of this update is the addition of Archeology, where players can excavate dirt and gravel blocks using a brush, possibly finding rare items such as diamond and emerald blocks. The Caves and Cliffs update also includes a whole new biome called the Deep Dark, which can be found within underground caves. Here you can expect to find new hostile mobs and a new light source for Minecraft; candles!
Minecraft Dungeons will also be getting a new expansion, in the form of a DLC titled Howling Peaks. It’ll include a new boss for players to take on, called The Tempest Golem, who will create stormy winds at the top of perilous mountain peaks. This should create a unique challenge for both new and experienced players, offering fresh attacks and sweet loot. There will also be a free update that introduces Apocalypse Plus, a new game mode that increases the difficulty and brings on new challenges. Additionally, cross-platform play comes to Minecraft Dungeons, allowing players on all platforms to slay mobs together.
It’s going to be an exciting year for Minecraft fans, with tons of new things coming to both the game and its action role-playing counterpart. What’s your favorite announcement from the show? Let me know in the comments below!
