Calcite is a new block that was added in the Minecraft Caves and Cliffs Part I 1.17 update, together with other mining materials such as Copper, Tuff, and Amethyst. Since it is a relatively new item introduced into the game, you might be wondering what interesting new items you can craft using Calcite blocks. To know the answer, as well as where to find Calcite blocks in Minecraft, just continue reading down below.
What is Calcite and Where You Can Find One
In Minecraft, Calcite is an ore that can be found as part of Amethyst geodes, along with Smooth Basalt and Amethyst Shards. You can easily identify a Calcite block thanks to its gray-tannish color with darker spots all around it, looking almost like real-life marble. It can only be mined using a Pickaxe; using any other tools will just break the blocks into nothing.
Usually, Amethyst geodes are located between Y coordinate 0 and 70. Sometimes, a vine of Calcite can also be found on stony peaks, while Amethyst geodes might also show up in beaches and underwater biomes. When underground, the Calcite blocks themselves usually are trapped between Amethyst and Basalt blocks. With that in mind, you need to first break the outer Amethyst layers to find the Calcite. Thus it is recommended to collect this item when you are also hunting for Amethyst shards.
Calcite Uses in Minecraft
However, there are not many practical uses for Calcite stones in Minecraft, unfortunately. But as mentioned before, thanks to its marble-like texture you can use it as a rather striking decoration and building material. Most people on the internet like to pair it with Diorite. Try mixing and matching it with different kinds of blocks for your home!
