Congrats are in order for Michaela Jaé “MJ” Rodriguez, who has officially made history as the first transgender woman to take home a Golden Globe award. Pop Sugar reports the Pose leading actress won a 2022 Golden Globe last night for Best Television Actress in a Drama Series.
A Historical Win For A Ground Breaking Series
Pose is a groundbreaking FX drama series created by Ryan Murphy, which, according to IMDB, has the largest cast of trans actresses in the entire history of scripted television. Pose tells the emotionally gripping tale of the gay and trans underground ballroom scene in New York City during the late 80s and early 90s. Pose goes in-depth on sensitive political issues such as gay and trans discrimination, hate crimes, and the AIDS crisis throughout its three-season run. MJ Rodriguez stars as Blanca Rodriguez-Evangelista, the role which earned her the historic win.
Although the Golden Globes was not televised this year, MJ Rodriguez was able to share her acceptance speech for her historic win through a series of heartfelt social media posts, including an IG live stream where she shared her reaction with her fans.
