Mollymauk Tealeaf is the next member of the Mighty Nein to get his backstory told by Dark Horse Comics. ScreenRant announced today that Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins – Mollymauk Tealeaf would be hitting shelves this September. It will divulge the origins of everyone’s favorite purple tiefling.
What is Critical Role?
For the uninitiated, Critical Role is a web series where voice actors play D&D. Currently, the series has developed a massive fanbase in the middle of its third campaign. Since launching in 2015, the series has grown exponentially. As a result, it now includes several comic book series, art books, games, a novel, and even an animated series on Amazon Prime.
The Mighty Nein is the name given to the group of characters from the second campaign. Although that campaign ran for about three years, it didn’t offer a ton of backstory. With the group being so popular amongst fans, people are eager to know more. As a result, these graphic novels aim to share the characters’ origins with fans.
What Will This Book Be About?
This upcoming book will be the sixth in the series that spotlights the members of the Mighty Nein. Mollymauk joins Caleb Widogast, Jester Lavorre, Nott the Brave, Yasha Nydoorin, and Fjord Stone. The character of Mollymauk, who went by “Molly,” was played by Taliesin Jaffe throughout the second campaign.
An official synopsis of the book reads:
“What strange events created Mollymauk Tealeaf? Entertainer, fighter, and performer, “Molly” has a knack for hiding his true self behind the shifting color and shape of a personality he seems to wear like his singular coat. But as with every member of the Mighty Nein, his past will eventually catch up with him…and it’s a strange one indeed.”
Who is Behind The Book?
Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins – Mollymauk Tealeaf will be helmed by a creative team that includes some Critical Role cast members. Jody Houser, Hunter Bonyun, Cathy Le, and Ariana Maher will join Critical Role’s Matthew Mercer and Taliesin Jaffe to create the book. Houser is a familiar name in the world of Critical Role. She wrote the second and third series of the Vox Machina Origins comics. Those delving into the backstory of the characters for the first campaign.
This new book for The Mighty Nein series will be released from Dark Horse Comics and will hit shelves on September 14.
