With a less than a month until its console release, Capcom has announced that Monster Hunter: World will hold another beta testing and will also receive a free DLC in Spring 2018. They also released a new trailer introducing elder dragons, new and old, in the Monster Hunter universe.
Unlike the original beta test, fans without a PlayStation Plus subscription can participate in the final beta. It will include the quest targets from the original test: Great Jagras, Barroth and Anjanath. However, the final beta will include a quest originally unavailable that involves hunting down Nergigante, one of the new elder dragons and the flagship monster for Monster Hunter: World. The final beta will be on PlayStation 4 starting Friday, January 19th through Monday, January 22nd — the weekend before its console release.
Along with its beta news, Capcom also announced more information about the DLC for their upcoming title. Monster Hunter: World’s first DLC will be released in Spring of 2018, is free, and will introduce a new monster to the game. Veterans of the series will be pleased with Deviljho, a monstrous creature with double the teeth and muscle, making his return to the Monster Hunter universe later this year.
The trailer also introduces audiences to the beautifully terrifying elder dragons of Monster Hunter: World. Long-time fans of the series will recognize elder dragons, Kushala Daora and Teostra, from earlier titles. Kushala Daora is a metal-plated terror able to bend the wind to his will, while Teostra is the king of fire and ash. These two will be accompanied by newcomer Dodogama, described by Capcom as a “rock-eating wyvern that possesses a unique saliva that causes rock to become explosive, a hazardous mix it will spit at its foes to warn off attackers.”
Monster Hunter: World is set to release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Friday, January 26th, 2018. Capcom announced earlier this week that the PC port of the title won’t release until fall of this year.
