1995’s Mortal Kombat is a mixed bag of a film filled with over-the-top acting, spotty (at best) CGI, and some questionable creative decisions. But, one thing this movie got right was its epic soundtrack, more specifically the song “Techno Syndrome”. Just a few days away from its release, NetherRealm Studios just dropped a launch trailer for Mortal Kombat 11 with a new remix on the classic track. You can see the launch trailer down below:
Now, was this a carefully orchestrated decision by NetherRealm Studios to pull us in using nostalgia? Most definitely. Was it effective? 100% (at least in my case).
Mortal Kombat 11 will have the past and the future colliding as we’ll get to see multiple versions of our favorite Mortal Kombat Kombatants throughout the game’s narrative. This is all due to Kronika, the game’s main antagonist who has been secretly orchestrating everything from MK 1. She has only come to the surface now due to the events of Mortal Kombat X, where Shinnok was defeated by Raiden and Cassie Cage. This is all according to MK mastermind Ed Boon himself.
Confirmed characters so far include Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Jade, Johnny Cage, Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, Jax, Kitana, Kung Lao, Noob Saibot, Erron Black, Kotal Kahn, D’vorah, Baraka, Cassie Cage, Jacqui Briggs, Skarlet, Kabal, Kano, and Shao Kahn (via a pre-order bonus). New characters to the franchise include Geras, Cetrion, Kollector, and Kronika (who has yet to be announced as a playable fighter). Along with that, it has been confirmed that Shang Tsung will be the game’s first DLC character.
Mortal Kombat 11 releases April 23rd, 2019 for Xbox One, PC, PS4, and the Nintendo Switch.
