The long-awaited Mortal Kombat trailer has finally debuted with blood, blood, and even more blood.
Based on the Video Game series of the same name. Mortal Kombat looks to capture the bombastic and fatal nature of what fans know and love. The trailer has a lot to show and doesn’t pull any punches. Showing plenty of brutality as well as notable characters fans have come to adore over the years.
The film’s description is as follows:
In “Mortal Kombat,” MMA fighter Cole Young, accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritage—or why Outworld’s Emperor Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down. Fearing for his family’s safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade at the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden, an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao and rogue mercenary Kano, as he prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcana—the immense power from within his soul—in time to save not only his family, but to stop Outworld once and for all?
Beloved characters such as Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), Kano (Josh Lawson), Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Jax Briggs (Mechad Brooks), Kung Lao (Max Huang), and Raiden (Tadanobu Asano) all seem to be playing significant roles in the film. With brand new character Cole Young (Lewis Tan) as our protagonist for this story.
Mortal Kombat looks FATAL!
The Mortal Kombat film seems plenty brutal with a plot that seems to follow the games reasonably well. Let’s hope the movie delivers those over the top FATALITIES that fans know and love.
Let’s not forget about the quick glimpse we got of Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada) vs. Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim), which looks absolutely bonkers! I’m looking forward to hearing Scorpion’s “GET OVER HERE!” on the big screen when Mortal Kombat hits theatres and HBO Max on April 16 later this year.
So what did you think of the new Mortal Kombat trailer? Are you excited to see the likes of Scorpion on the big screen once more? I think the Mortal Kombat film looks awesome! Let me know what you thought in the comments down below!
