Released on April 21st, The Milestone game MotoGP 22 has now arrived. The motorcycle racing sim is here with a bunch of new content and improved features. Known for the previous MotoGP games, MXGP, Hot wheels Unleashed, and the Ride franchises. So, how is Milestone’s newest racing game? Find out in our review of MotoGP 22.
Story: Racing through an epic year in MotoGP 22
In MotoGP 22, players get the chance to re-live what is said to be one of the most incredible seasons in MotoGP history. In the (NINE) Season 2009, step into the boots of various racing legends such as Rossi, Lorenzo, Stoner, and Pedrosa at the peak of their careers. (NINE) Season 2009 has over 50 minutes of actual footage between races, with 17 Chapters, one for each Grand Prix of the 2009 season.
With the help of the game’s narrator Mark Neale, the player will experience one of the most remarkable years in MotoGP up until this point. With each Grand Prix over the year, the player will get their chance to make history happen again. The player will take over the three different riders throughout the race, helping them take their spots in MotoGP history.
(NINE) Season 2009 is fantastically edited and laid out. Cutting between in-game racing and a documentary-style movie. The players are given an eye in the world of MotoGP if they aren’t already familiar with motorsport. Of course, unless you are familiar with the gameplay of MotoGP, then you will have a difficult time progressing through the story.
Gameplay: A steep challenge in this racing sim
MotoGP 22’s gameplay is that part of the review that sho. While MotoGP has a fantastic story with various features, including multiplayer and quick races, players unfamiliar with MotoGP will find great difficulty just jumping in.
If you’re new to this franchise, you’ll want to start with the tutorial. This is a must, and it may not even improve your chances of success in this game. The developers at Milestone didn’t release any regular kind of racer. Instead, MotoGP is a sim racer.
Handling your motorcycle requires time and patience to succeed in your races. Knowing when to lean and how much you should lean when cornering is paramount. Of course, the developers at Milestone won’t leave players entirely in the dark when playing their game MotoGP.
Some assists can help players gain some bearing when playing, but don’t expect much. Milestone did their best to try and ease the burden on the first-time or casual players of the franchise. However, with assisted braking, off-road, and added stability, it will only do so much to help the player keep on the road. The rest will be up to the player to grasp victory in MotoGP.
Graphics/Audio: A bit dated but look and plays well regardless
Using the Unreal Engine, the developers at Milestone deliver a good-looking racer with MotoGP. Displaying tracks with their various backdrops is not a bad sight. But, of course, stacking up against other current-gen AAA titles, the graphics of MotoGP will look a bit dated. However, that shouldn’t be something that should stop you if you’re interested.
MotoGP offers excellent sound, though, the audio between the commentary style single player or when the player finally gets to the racing. Roaring down the track at up to 200 miles an hour will sound great and add a lot to the game. Unfortunately, players will find there isn’t much in the way of a soundtrack. Like many track racers, it’s not about driving your car to a great soundtrack.
Altogether MotoGP offers a decent-looking and sounding package that isn’t too demanding on the system. Nor did we find any issues graphically or otherwise during our review of MotoGP 22.
Conclusion: A definite buy for fans and the familiar
The Milestone game MotoGP 22 is another fantastic addition to the MotoGP franchise. Wrapped in a decent-looking package with the Unreal Engine, the player will be treated to a decent game. But it’s fair to mention that the player will need a lot of practice and patience to enjoy the game with little difficulty. This difficulty will probably be a gate to anyone looking for something more casual or looking to jump into MotoGP for the first time.
If you’re interested in picking up the Milestone game MotoGP 22, you should be wary of the difficulty before spending your money. Maybe look elsewhere if you’re not looking for a reasonably hardcore sim racer. But, if you are interested, MotoGP 22 is currently available on PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One & Series S|X, Nintendo Switch, and Steam.
