South Carolina Lawyer Alex Murdaugh is facing life sentence after he was found guilty of the 2021 Murdaugh family murders. The disgraced lawyer, who was convicted on Thursday night after almost three hours of deliberation, received two life sentences for the murders and was denied a mistrial.
One of the jurors that participated in the deliberation is speaking out on Alex’s heinous crime, and how they reached their guilty verdict. Speaking to Good Morning America, juror Craig Moyer revealed that he became certain of Alex’s guilt after going through a cell phone evidence introduced earlier on in the trial. He explained:
“I was certain it was his voice. Everybody else could hear it too.”
The said video, which Paul had taken near the dog Kennels of the family’s Islandton property on the night of his murder, featured the voices of Paul, Maggie, and Alex. Earlier in the investigation into the Murdaugh family murders, Alex denied being near the dog kennels where the murder took place that night.
He maintained that stance for nearly two years. Hence, his voice recorded in the video suggested otherwise, becoming a major compromising factor in the prosecution. When confronted with the evidence, Alex Murdaugh admitted he lied about his whereabouts, but was not guilty of fatally shooting his wife and son.
The Video Evidence Came Through During Alex’s Trials For The Murdaugh Family Murders
Moyer explained that after the jury’s deliberation, nine believed him guilty, while two others thought him innocent with a twelfth uncertain. However, replaying the video again convinced all twelve of Alex’s guilt beyond any reasonable doubt. The convicted lawyer’s reaction to his guilty verdict further erased any lingering doubt. Craig explained:
“I didn’t see any true remorse or any compassion or anything. He never cried. All he did was blow snot. No tears.”
Ultimately, the judge convicted Alex on two counts of murder, and two weapon charges over the deaths of his wife and son via two separate weapons. Additionally, he faces several charges for alleged financial crimes and has a trial sated for a later date.
Alex Murdaugh’s murder trial began in 2021, after his wife, Maggie Murdaugh, and son, Paul died near the dog kennels in their home. While Paul sustained gunshots to his head and chest at close range, Maggie suffered multiple shots from a 300 Blackout ammo from an AR-style rifle. The Murdaugh family murders remained unsolved for nearly two years until the discovery of overwhelming evidence of guilt to hold him accountable.
