Marvel is taking its heroes into the terror of Murderworld. This November, a new five-part series is sending Marvel’s mightiest heroes into Arcade’s Murderworld. The iconic location has been wreaking Havok in the Marvel Universe for decades. Now, a new saga is beginning focused on the secret and deadly tournament.
What Do We Know About This New Murderworld Series?
This new series is from writers Jim Zub and Ray Fawkes. Throughout the five parts, the writers will be joined by some of the most talented artists in the biz, beginning with Jethro Morales. Everything kicks off in Murderworld: Avengers #1. Then, one-shots featuring Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Moon Knight will continue the adventure. Finally, everything comes to an explosive head in the final issue.
Murderworld is an elaborate and secret tournament run by the sadistic Arcade. The tournament is broadcast online and, until now, has remained a secret. However, a young documentarian, Paul Pastor, is setting out to expose the gruesome reality of Murderworld to the world. Of course, he is gonna need some help in doing that. Naturally, he turns to the Avengers. In the inaugural issue, Black Widow has a personal vendetta against Arcade, but can she stop Murderworld before it takes its next victim?
What The Creative Team Has to Say
Speaking to Marvel, Jim Zub reveals he was introduced to Murderworld in an issue of Uncanny X-Men. Immediately, he was intrigued by the “colorful corniness mixed with deception and violence.” Many years ago, the writer chatted with Ray Fawkes about crafting a story set within that “deadly playground.” Now, he is getting that opportunity.
Similarly, Fawkes is just as intrigued by the concept of Murderworld. Particularly the “gaudy, family-fun veneer slapped over a deadly threat.” This allows for so many different ideas to make it “more frightening and exciting.” Now, Fawkes and Zub’s horrible ideas are being brought to life in this terrifying new series.
