Nintendo of America’s president has said the company is taking Switch Online’s N64 emulation criticism “very seriously” and claimed it’s looking at ways of improving the service, after serious criticism and negative reception has come about the N64 games, revolving around poor performance and other issues. All of this is in addition to the negative reception of Switch Online’s expansion pack.
After a recent interview between the Nintendo of America boss Doug Bowser speaking to The Verge, the president said that Nintendo is fully aware of the criticisms and feedback that has appeared about the Switch’s performance with the N64 emulation games and that they will be doing everything they can to address these concerns.
To quote Doug Bowser directly, he said “We’re constantly looking for ways to make our online features and those games better and continuing to add value through more services and more games as we go forward,” he said.
“We take the feedback very seriously, and we’re continuing to look at ways to improve the overall performance. For us, it’s about quality and great content at a great value.”
The issues themselves that have been reported on the N64 games vary from game to game but include a variety of issues that need urgent resolution, such as a noticeable audio delay (meaning the sound is heard a split-second after the action), while others have graphical issues such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s inability to properly handle fog. These problems significantly affect the gaming experience and are embarrassing for Nintendo.
In related news, Switch Online’s Expansion Pack tier launched last month and was met with frustration from some players not only due to its pricing but issues lacking such as button mapping as well. This led to the YouTube video announcing the expansion to become Nintendo’s most disliked video ever on the platform, a clear indication of audience opinion.
