Although 2020 might be the end of the world, three things are certain: death, taxes and a new 2K game dropping. NBA 2k21 bounces back this year with some new tricks.
Publisher 2K today debuted a sweat-filled teaser trailer of NBA 2K21. The footage from Sony’s Future of Gaming event says the title is running in-engine on PlayStation 5.
2K21 is promoted as being built from the ground up for next-gen consoles. The way Zion Williamson acted his lines in the trailer, it wouldn’t be surprising if that image in the thumbnail below came from him trying to remember all four lines. No word yet if the trailer is representative of what the quarantine games will look like this summer. Check out the trailer below for yourself.
NBA 2K21 shoots for all-around improvements
Take-Two Interactive had their hands all over the PS5 event. They kicked it off with a GTA V re-release coming to the system. Then, their 2K publishing arm revealed the follow up to NBA 2k20, which sold over 8 million copies. Longtime series developer, Visual Concepts is back behind the helm for this one as well.
“From graphics as in-your-face as Zion’s dunk to almost unrecognizable loading speeds of less than two seconds, NBA 2K21 for next-gen is poised to shatter all our previous notions of what this franchise can deliver,” said Visual Concepts co-founder Greg Thomas. ”With 2K21, we’ve got something that merges incredible graphic capabilities with new in-game opportunities to reset the sports sim standard.”
“I’m hyped by how realistic the next-gen gameplay is and how accurately it captures my looks and playing style,” stated New Orleans Pelicans’ Zion Williamson. “It’s mind-blowing to see what 2K has created with NBA 2K21. I can’t wait to see what else NBA 2K21 has in store.”
Next-gen versions of the game are said to carry “dramatically improved load speeds” on top of new visual flairs. All of this comes together to get players in the game faster for Zion to sweat all over him.
NBA 2K21 will feature: new game features, modes, brand partnerships, social events and a soundtrack to give dunking on rivals that extra sizzle.
Although the young Pelicans player is featured prominently in the trailer, it is unclear yet if he’s the cover athlete (or one of them). I’ll reach out to 2K to confirm if game cases will be waterproof if Zion is on it. NBA 2K21 is scheduled for release this fall. Stay tuned to the site for more updates as the release date draws closer.
