Lopez Vs. Lopez has snagged a full-season order at NBC. Deadline reports that NBC has ordered an additional nine episodes of the hit comedy series, giving the first season of Lopez Vs. Lopez a total of 22 episodes for the full first season. The show is joining the drama Quantum Leap, which got a Back 9 order in October. Lopez vs. Lopez stars comedian George Lopez (soon to be Uncle Rudy in the Blue Beetle movie) as a working-class Latino who moves in with his Gen Z daughter, played by the comedian’s real-life daughter Mayan Lopez. The Deadline article says that the show;’s pilot has a “1.6 rating in the 18-49 demo and 7.6 million viewers on linear and digital viewing.”
‘Lopez Vs. Lopez’ Picks Up Full Season at NBC
The success of Lopez Vs. Lopez, that has given it a full season on NBC, is somewhat miraculous. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Friday (the night the sitcom airs) is one of the lowest TV usage nights of the week. For that reason, Lopez Vs. Lopez has garnered a modest 2.28 million viewers and a 0.3 rating from adults 18 to 49. However, the sitcom is much more successful on Peacock and NBC’s other streaming services. NBC reports that the first episode tripled its initial audience to 7.6 million and grew its 18 to 49 platform by five times. With the demand for streaming services on the rise, it’s clear that they impact a show’s success and chances for a brighter future. And while Peacock is one of the most made fun of streaming services, it’s clear they are doing something right when the Hallmark Channel wants to partner with them.
