‘Need For Speed Heat’ has been leaked by Austrian retailer Gameware. The website briefly showed the title of the game, and placeholder box art based on the spin-0ff game Need for Speed No Limits.
Prior to E3 2019, EA confirmed in a financial call that a new Need for Speed title would release this year. They also confirmed that there would be no announcement at the show, and they would announce the game in due course.
The developer Ghost Games also gave an update back in May. They didn’t announce much, just that cars and customization will play a huge part in the upcoming title. Of course, it will. It’s a Need for Speed game! What they did say is that its a very special year for the famed street racer, as it hits 25 years, and that they would be celebrating with a new entry.
So when can we expect an announcement? Gamescom is just around the corner. Gamescom runs from August 20-24 in Cologne, Germany. The event is the largest video game convention in Europe, and Ghost Games (the developer) is based in Sweden so it would make perfect sense to announce the game there, and have it playable for the first time before its release later this year. And where else are they going to announce it? Its the last major video game convention of the year.
In recent years, the Need for Speed franchise has been in a downward trend. The rebooted Need for Speed (2015) was underwhelming, and the 2017 game Need for Speed Payback was poor, and this was reflected in reviews by critics.
