Prime1Studio has now opened preorders on its expensive statue (or figure) of Unit 01 from Neon Genesis Evangelion. The mecha figure stands at an impressive 65.7 cm in height. It also includes a premium fluorescent paint job, light-up LED eyes, and two swappable heads. The first head shows the standard look of the robot, while the other shows it in berserk mode.
The statue recreates Shinji’s first battle with an Angel, which was in the first few episodes of the original anime. Shortly after he arrives in present-day (2015) Tokyo, he is then pressured by his father and NERVE employees to pilot the robot to defeat the Angel. The scene was also reanimated in the 2007 movie Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone.
With all of this in mind, the Evangelion figure sells for a whopping $1,499. Preorders require those to pay for a $150USD deposit to reserve. Only 500 copies of the Evangelion statue are being produced for worldwide distribution.
Neon Genesis Evangelion: A Figure and a New Series
The overall long-running story of Evangelion has finally come to an end with the 2021 film Evangelion 3.0 + 1.01: Thrice Upon a Time. The movie served as a commercial success, with fans worldwide accessing it any way they can. This film also ended Shinji’s story and Hideaki Anno’s time creating the franchise. However, he has also teased new series entries that would follow up skipped incidents in the movies. These, he said, are to be created without him at the helm.
With this leave to the franchise, Anno has also stated that he wants to work on more live-action projects. One of his projects, Shin Ultraman, will be released in Japan in 2022. He is also directing a reboot of Toei’s series, Shin Kamen Rider.
The original Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series is available to watch on Netflix. The Evangelion movies can be found on Prime Video. Lastly, the Neon Genesis Evangelion figure can be found here.
