Streaming giant Netflix has officially announced a release date for their planned live-action series based on the Resident Evil video game franchise. The series is from showrunner Andrew Dabb who is best known for his hit show Supernatural. Resident Evil will officially premiere this summer on July 14. In addition to a release date, Netflix also unveiled some new promotional posters for fans. Take a look at them below.
What will be new with the Netflix Resident Evil Series?
The new posters for the Resident Evil Netflix series show some interesting objects surrounded by ominous splotches of blood. The first depicts a vial of blood marked with a label that shows its contents are positive for the T-virus pathogen, the virus that turns people into zombies in the popular games. The second poster is a close-up of a large red and yellow pill with the word “joy” on it. It will certainly be interesting to find out the significance of these objects in the upcoming zombie drama.
Netflix previously said on the plot for the upcoming Resident Evil show, “Year 2036 – 14 years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse, Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and insane creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.”
Although the release date has only just been announced, several actors have already been tied to the project. Lance Reddick (The Wire, One Night in Miami, Horizon Forbidden West) has signed onto to play Jade’s father, Albert Wesker. Other actors in the Resident Evil Netflix series are Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, Paola Nuñez and Ahad Raza.
Netflix has shared that the horror series will take place between two timelines, switching back and forth to give viewers a full picture of the pandemic. The first timeline will feature Jade and Billie as teenagers, with the second set in the future, after the world has been torn apart by zombies.
