Earlier today, Netflix went to Twitter and announced that yes, it will be gain one more legendary video game character by 2022. Sonic the Hedgehog is coming to Netflix in a 3D animated series titled “Sonic Prime“.
The spikiest, fastest, and undoubtedly bluest hedgehog in the world will get 24 episodes of adventures ranging from “saving the multiverse” to “self-discovery and redemption” as reported by IGN and Variety. Passionate Sonic fans might want to know that the series will be a result of a joint effort between Netflix, SEGA, WildBrain Studios, and Man of Actions. In other words, studios with exceptional talent.
There are no further details about the project at this moment, apart from its very broad release window: it’s coming sometime in 2022.

What to Expect from a Netflix Sonic Series
It will be exciting to see how SEGA, WildBrain, and Man of Actions approach this project. Even more so when it comes to comparing it to other gaming-related series on Netflix.
We’ve already seen some amazing Netflix series based on games. Take Castlevania for example or the recently released Dragon’s Dogma. Now, this doesn’t mean that the next upcoming project will live up to the hype. After all, it seems like Netflix is bolting through a bunch of gaming universes. Pun intended. But one thing is clear. Gamers will soon be torn between watching and playing their beloved characters.
Something that I’d really like to know is if somehow this all ties in with the 2020 Sonic movie. Maybe Jim Carrey gets a comeback? We still have nothing on the cast. Is the universe the same? When is it happening? Why is it happening? I need answers Netflix! I guess I’ll have to wait. Which reminds me…
Even though there is some dispute over the quality of the games he featured in since his debut in 1991, Sonic is obviously a beloved character. The recent “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie was well received by the audience back in 2020, even though it flunked in the eyes of critics. What will become of this Netflix adaptation, remains to be seen.
