Netflix has launched its gaming service Netflix Games for android devices via the Netflix mobile app. The company had earlier announced that it would begin the rollout of Netflix game titles on November 3 on their Twitter account and said its iOS counterpart is still on the way. Despite that, many users have not been able to see the Netflix games yet on Android. This doesn’t mean the launch has been shifted. Netflix said the rollout is happening “gradually”, so don’t panic if you haven’t seen the dedicated games tab on your application just yet.
“Not finding Mobile Games in the Netflix app? We’re starting to gradually roll them out to all members. If you’re not seeing them, please check again later,” their help center said today.
Mike Verdu, Netflix’s Vice President of Game Development, said that the company is in the “early days” of its foray into gaming.
“Whether you’re craving a casual game you can start from scratch or an immersive experience that lets you dig deeper into your favorite stories, we want to begin to build a library of games that offers something for everyone. We’re in the early days of creating a great gaming experience, and we’re excited to take you on this journey with us,” Verdu said.
A few months ago, Netflix acquired Night School, the game developers behind Oxenfree. The move indicated that the company is getting serious about building a formidable game library to set itself apart from all other streaming services. Netflix has also tested out its gaming service in Poland.
The streaming service’s game catalog will launch for Android devices with five titles.
Which Titles are Available Today?
All the Netflix Games for android users are already available on the Google Play Store. However, all titles will be coming to the Netflix app today, and even if you get them from Play Store, they’ll still require a Netflix subscription regardless.
Stranger Things: 1984, Stranger Things 3: The Game, Shooting Hoops, Card Blast, and Teeter Up are the titles that are available starting today.
Stranger Things: 1984 and Stranger Things 3: The Game are both developed by BonusXP game studio. Shooting Hoops and Teeter Up are from the video game publishers Frosty Pop, and Card Blast is from Amuzo & Rogue Games. Netflix also revealed that ‘a whole lot more’ titles are in the pipeline. Netflix’s launch of Stranger Things original game titles may mean that we get more of that in the future (fingers crossed for The Witcher).
How to Access the Games on Netflix
The games are available for free, at no added cost to all subscribers of Netflix. Netflix users on Android will see a dedicated row of Netflix Games for Android and a game tab in the Netflix app. According to the Netflix blog, the games are available in most of the languages offered on Netflix. Still, most games default to English if the user’s local language is not available.
According to Netflix, the games are not available on kids profiles. Accounts, where PINs have been set up to prevent children from accessing adult profiles will still require the PIN to play the games. Although some titles will need an internet connection to play, Netflix also said that some would be available to play offline.
