If you are a fan of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Gal Gadot, Ryan Reynolds, then you’re in luck because Netflix has released the first trailer for an action-thriller starring all three of them called Red Notice!
A Movie to Notice
The film’s plot synopsis is as follows: “An Interpol-issued Red Notice is a global alert to hunt and capture the world’s most wanted. But when a daring heist brings together the FBI’s top profiler (Johnson) and two rival criminals (Gadot, Reynolds), there’s no telling what will happen.” Based on the trailer, Johnson will have to form an unlikely alliance with Reynolds to take down Gadot, which will take them around the world and through several high-octane action set pieces.
The writer/director of Red Notice, Rawson Marshall Thurber, is no stranger to action films as he also worked on Central Intelligence and Skyscraper from 2016 and 2018 respectively, both of which star The Rock.
Noticeable Development
Deadline first announced in February 2018 that both Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures won a heated bidding war for Red Notice, which only Thurber and The Rock were attached to at that time. Both men were also producing the movie through their corresponding banners–Bad Version Inc. and Seven Bucks Productions.
Gadot was cast in the film in June 2018 while Reynolds was cast in July of the following year. The latter’s casting also came with the news that Netflix had picked up the film.
Not long after, Variety reported that the production budget for Red Notice is between $160 million and $200 million with Johnson thanking Netflix on social media for “making its largest commitment ever to a feature film.”
While some people may prefer to see an action movie of this scale on the big screen, at least Netflix is taking risks on a new IP, especially at a time when major franchises such as Marvel and Star Wars are putting butts in seats. The movie is also one of a busy Fall slate for Netflix original films that also includes Lin-Manuel Miranda’s tick, tick…BOOM!, the Army of the Dead prequel Army of Thieves, and Don’t Look Up starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.
Red Notice hits Netflix on November 12, 2021.
