For the uninitiated, the series base premise is a Guadalajara Cartel’s rise power during the 1980s. It was a spin-off of the massively successful Netflix series Narcos that launched in 2018. This third season, which will be 10 episodes in total, will take place during the 1990s. Narcos: Mexico season 3 will follow a new generation of Mexican Kingpins, including Amado Carrillo Fuentes.
Narcos: Mexico Season 3 Trailer Promises Excitement and Introduces Season Antagonist
The Narcos: Mexico season 3 trailer begins with a plane crashing. We then see scenes of chaos and a foreboding warning that the Tijuana Cartel will only get stronger. As Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden plays, we are then re-introduced to Amado Carrillo Fuentes. Fuentes is now positioned the be “the most powerful trafficker this country’s ever seen.” What follows is a cacophony of action-packed sequences with all the shoot-outs, prickly politics, and devastation that the Narcos series is known for.
The new season comes at a pivotal time for the series, with Amado lurking in the background of both Narcos and Narcos: Mexico. Though this is the last season, the focus on Amado leaves the potential for Narcos to continuously reinvent itself. After all, the history of the drug cartel is vast and expansive.
New Season Will Not Have Diego Luna
Absent from the Narcos: Mexico season 3 trailer, is of course Diego Luna. Luna, who played Felix Gallardo, saw his character wrap up with an arrest. As Luna is currently preparing for his role as Cassian Andor in an upcoming Star Wars series for Disney+, he will not return for this season. However, other series regulars like Scoot McNairy, José María Yázpik, Alfonso Dosal, Mayra Hermosillo, and Gorka Lasaosa will return. Also joining the fold is Luis Gerardo Méndez, Alberto Guerra, Luisa Rubino, and rapper Bad Bunny.
