Earlier today, Netflix released another teaser trailer for its next big fantasy series, Shadow and Bone. This series is an adaptation of the very popular Grishaverse novels written by Leigh Bardugo.
The teaser trailer is the first time we’ve seen the cast in action. Shadow and Bone is starring Jessie Mei Li as Alina Starkov, the main character, Archie Renaux as Malyen Oretsev, Freddy Carter as Kaz Brekker, Amita Suman as Inej, Kit Young as Jesper Fahey, and Ben Barnes who will portray The Darkling.
Shadow and Bone is dark fantasy at its finest:
Soldier. Summoner. Saint. Orphaned and expendable, Alina Starkov is a soldier who knows she may not survive her first trek across the Shadow Fold―a swath of unnatural darkness crawling with monsters. But when her regiment is attacked, Alina unleashes dormant magic not even she knew she possessed.
Now Alina will enter a lavish world of royalty and intrigue as she trains with the Grisha, her country’s magical military elite―and falls under the spell of their notorious leader, the Darkling. He believes Alina can summon a force capable of destroying the Shadow Fold and reuniting their war-ravaged country, but only if she can master her untamed gift.
Shadow and Bone will be streaming on Netflix starting April 23rd, 2021. If you’d like to catch up on some reading before then, the initial trilogy is available as well as Six of Crows, the spin-off duology. Bardugo, has already stated that the Netflix adaptation will intertwine the stories of Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows.
