Ever since its addition to the previous console generations, Netflix has become synonymous with video game consoles, even being coined the Netflix box by some. Now, it seems that the company wants Nintendo to join the party, hoping to add the streaming service to the Nintendo Switch.
All of this information comes from GoNintendo user Kamehameha X, who claimed to be a Netflix sales representative, who revealed that the company’s Switch app is “Locked and loaded.” Apparently, the only thing preventing the collaboration has been the approval from Nintendo itself.
So far, The Switch has done incredible sales-wise, to the point where it’s difficult to find them in stores. With that in mind, it would make sense that Netflix would want to be on the console, especially with its mobile capabilities.
One of the biggest selling points for The Switch has been its portability, as its size has allowed owners to bring it even when traveling. While plenty of iPads and Cell Phones give users the capability to stream, and even download, Netflix on the go, The Switch would be a perfect addition for both companies.
Nintendo and Netflix have done business with each other in the past, as the streaming service came to the Nintendo Wii in Spring 2010, the Nintendo 3DS Summer 2011, and Wii U in Winter 2012.
Earlier this year, Nintendo President Reggie Fils-Aimé spoke with the Washington Post, revealing that he was talking to Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon for video on The Switch.
“We’re talking to a range of companies about other services, companies like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon – things that will come in time.” Reggie said, “In our view, these are not differentiators. What differentiates us is the way you play with Nintendo Switch and what you can play. And that will continue to be our focus into the future as we continue driving this platform.”
As of now, neither company has commented on the story or the “representatives” credibility. For more information, be sure to check back to the site for updates, as well as all of your other Nerdy News and Needs!
