Locke and Key is the story of three siblings who, after the murder of their father, move into the family’s ancestral home with their mother. Once inside, they find magical keys that give them a wide range of powers and abilities. It’s a story of young people being forced to contend with unspeakable horrors and supernatural terror. The first season was largely well-received. The few criticisms it received were mainly for the inconsistent pacing and leaning more into teen drama and away from some of the horror present in the graphic novel.
Locke and Key was a surprising title for me. I initially passed on it, thinking it was a poor imitation of Ms. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children or The House with a Clock in Its Walls. That was a mistake on my part. The graphic novel was solid from start to finish, and if the Netflix series has learned from their few stumbles in the first season, then season two of Locke and Key should only be better.
