Neverwinter’s latest update pits adventurer’s against an army of devils whose leader isn’t too fond of the angel in charge. The Rage of Bel episode, as they are referring to the release, begins after the events of the Avernus Infernal Descent module released earlier in 2020. While fighting devils and demons may seem tedious, Bel appears to add some new and exciting things to the game.
Before we get too much further into the update, there will be spoilers for module 18 and the campaign guidebook Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus.
Rage of Bel starts with Zariel’s, a former angel turned archdevil, second in command, Bel leading a charge against the city of Vallenhas. However, Bel was replaced by Zariel, and he’s not too pleased with the outcome. So, the pit fiend has devised a plan to overthrow her and will use the adventurer’s to help see he is successful.

The breaking of the citadel’s chains has caused the archdevil Zariel to take notice. So she has sent her second-in-command and most conniving lieutenant, Bel, to destroy Vallenhas and any who would stand in her way.
What she doesn’t know is that Bel has other plans. Should he find adventurers tough enough to best him and his legion in combat, he may be able to give them the secret to defeating her.
Join the fight for Vallenhas’ freedom once more by becoming one of Alric’s Riftwardens. Speak with Alric to cement your place in the annals of this epic fight between the forces of good and evil.”
Players can access the episode after they complete the Infernal Descent questline. Once complete, they will be able to fight Bel and reap the rewards. New items include two mounts, the Slaghound and Hound of the Forge, and a new companion, the Vallenhas Elite Soldier.
The update also sheds light on Neverwinter’s future progress. The development team is focusing on individual episodes that lead up to upcoming modules. For instance, Rage of Bel is considered an episode that will lead to whatever the next module is, while modules are the story as a whole and can be thought of like a Dungeons and Dragons campaign.
Rage of Bel is out for PC now and will release for Xbox One and PS4 later.
