Recently Netflix released their monthly New On Netflix lineup of upcoming movies and tv shows. Included in this list was a group of anime that will premiere on Netflix in March. These anime titles will join the likes of animes like Beastars, High-Rise Invasion, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, and Shaman King, which are also available to watch on Netflix. From a heartwarming slice of life to an experimental animated/live-action hybrid, here is a list of the new Netflix anime you can start streaming next month.
1. Kotaro Lives Alone
Release Date: March 10th
This heart-warming slice of life seems innocent and wholesome. Kotaro Lives Alone is an adorable coming of age tale about four-year-old Kotaro Sato, who lives alone in an apartment complex. Kotaro befriends a neighboring manga artist and discovers that he’s a lot more put together than the adults around him. Kotaro Lives Alone is a Netflix original series that features the vocal talents of Rie Kugimiya (Jujutsu Kaisen) and Toshiki Masuda (My Hero Academia).
2. Adam by Eve: A Live In Animation
Release Date: March 15th
This trippy anime film will marry live-action, 3D computer graphics, and 2D animation in a mashup of live-action, anime, and music by Japanese singer/songwriter Eve. Adam by Eve: A Live in Animation is a new Netflix anime inspired by the biblical story of Adam & Eve. In addition to its March premiere on Netflix, Adam by Eve will also be available in select theaters in Japan. Adam by Eve: A Live In Animation stars Eve and has 4 credited directors: Nobutaka Yoda (My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising), Hibiki Yoshizaki (Evangelion: 3+0 + 1.01 Thrice Upon a Time), music video director Yuchiro Saeki, and Waboku, who frequently collaborates with Eve on his music visuals. The eccentric film is being described by Netflix as a “dreamlike sonic” experience.
3. Thermae Romae Novae
Release date: March 28th
Thermae Romae Novae is a continuation of the award-winning manga Thermae Romae written by Mari Yamazaki, which has already received two live-action film adaptations ( Thermae Romae and Thermae Romae II ). The new Netflix anime is a comedy about a Roman bath architect named Lucius Modestus who discovers a way to travel back and forth between ancient Rome and modern-day Japan. Thermae Romae Novae gives a comical take on culture shock as Lucius (voiced by The Way of The House Husband’s Kenjiro Tsuda) navigates through the foreign customs of Japan while also being inspired by Japan’s modern-day technological advances, which he hopes to recreate in ancient Rome.
4. One Piece Film: Strong World
Release Date: March 15th
One Piece Strong World is the 10th film in the One Piece franchise and was originally released in Japan in 2009. Strong World is directed by Munehisa Sakai, whose previous work includes 130 episodes of the One Piece series. Now, One Piece fans can enjoy this film from the comforts of their own home when the movie starts streaming on March 15th. According to Myanimelist.com, the synopsis is as follows, “Upon hearing news that islands in East Blue are being destroyed, Monkey D. Luffy and his crew go to investigate. On their way, however, an outlandish pirate ship appears out of the sky, helmed by the infamous pirate Shiki “the Golden Lion”—a man who ate the Float-Float Fruit and the first-ever prisoner to escape from Impel Down. In his quest to defeat the World Government, Shiki kidnaps Nami to be his own navigator and sends the rest of the Straw Hat Pirates to his floating islands as hostages, leaving her in a dilemma. Separated in a land under Shiki’s absolute control, Luffy and his crew must survive the mystifying terrain in order to bring back their navigator and friend.”
