As part of the Dungeons and Dragons Live 2020 event, there has been an exciting new announcement in the world of D&D comics. This adventure takes place in Icewind Dale, made famous from the Legend of Drizzt novels, and comes following the announcement of the new campaign book.
The new campaign book is titled Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden and is a horror adventure. This comic is being released within the same area of the world. Icewind Dale is a tundra of harsh people and even harsher weather filled with dangerous creatures and wild barbarians. This new comic is titled At the Spine of the World, and the Dungeons and Dragons Live event gave us some details.
“At the Spine of the World takes place in Icewind Dale and Ten-Towns, an area blighted by feral beasts, continual blizzards, and some sort of strange madness that is gripping its residents. Saarvin, Dragonborn ranger, makes an appearance, alongside a host of colorful new characters!”
One of the characters highlighted in the live event is a warrior named Runa. She is based on a real-life Viking that received a battle-axe wound to her head but kept fighting. The Spine of the World is the name of a long mountain range that defines the land. Ten-Towns is also, as the name implies, a series of ten small towns surrounding three lakes that are the lifeblood of the people there. The chat about this new comic was helmed by Anna Prosser and Mica Burton at the live Dungeons and Dragons stream.
This comic is written by Aimee Garcia and AJ Mendez. Martin Coccolo is the artist and Katrina Mae Hao is the colorist. It is being published through IDW Publishing, who have also published A Darkened Wish, Rick and Morty vs Dungeons and Dragons, Evil at Baldur’s Gate, and more for D&D.
Dungeons and Dragons: At the Spine of the World, is set for release this October 21st, 2020.
