Hosted by SungWon Cho, also known as ProZD, New Game Plus Expo 2021 event broadcasted today showcased many small but interesting titles from 10 different Japanese developers/publishers. In case you missed the seven hours long live stream, here are the ten new JRPG titles for PS5, PS4, Switch, and PC announced in New Game Plus Expo 2021 show.
1. Yomi wo Saku Hana
A dungeon-crawling JRPG for Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One from a lesser-known Japanese developer Experience. Taking place in 1979 Tokyo, you have been selected as a part of an elite group sent to investigate a sudden appearance of a mysterious structure called Yomi. Lead your band of rag tags, fight off the monsters guarding the Yomi, and strike a motherload of whatever inside of it. The game is planned to be released this fall in the west.
2. Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny
In the New Game Plus Expo 2021 live stream, NIS America finally announced that Disgaea 6 would be released on June 29, 2021, for Nintendo Switch with four additional characters: Disgaea 2‘s Adell and Rozalin, Girl Laharl, and Asagi. The game originally launched on January 28 for both Switch and PS4 in Japan.
3. NIS Classics Vol. 1
NIS America also announced a strategy JRPG collection, Prinny Presents NIS Classics Volume 1 for Nintendo Switch and PC. It contains two PS2 classics: Phantom Brave: The Hermuda Triangle Remastered and Soul Nomad & the World Eaters. However, the PC release is actually just Soul Nomad since Phantom Brave had already been released first back in 2016. The pack will launch sometime this summer.
4. The Sealed Ampoule
Released alongside the New Game Plus Expo 2021 show, The Sealed Ampoule is described as a “dungeon agriculturalization rogue-like” title. Level up the floors in your dungeon to agriculturalize it, freeing it of enemies and providing crops of useful items. Combine over 100 different skills and skill types to develop your very own dungeon-crawling playstyle. The game is available on PC via Steam with a launch discount price of $17.99.
5. YS IX: Monstrum Nox
The latest entry in the hard-to-pronounce Ys series is now on PS4. The Nintendo Switch and PC versions of this action JRPG will follow later this summer. Renowned adventurer Adol “the Red” Christin has been turned into a Monstrum, a being with supernatural Gifts, by a mysterious woman named Aprilis. Now you take control as Adol or any of the other five notorious Monstrum to fend off the fearsome threats emerging from a shadowy dimension called the Grimwald Nox and unravel the mysteries of the Monstrum curse and the truth behind the unrest within the city of Balduq.
6. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV
The end of the epic Trails of Saga is finally out on PS4. In the face of despair and imminent threats, Class VII is joined by Crossbell’s Special Support Section and even the heroes of Liberl for one final battle. NIS America promised that the Nintendo Switch and PC port will be released on April 9, 2021.
7. Mary Skelter Finale
Another finale of a series that fans shouldn’t miss out on. Mary Skelter tells the story of Jack and the Blood Maidens, reincarnations of fairy tales, who tried to escape the horrible underground prison Jail filled with sadistic monsters called Marchen and Nightmares. This dungeon-crawling JRPG is coming to PS4 and Nintendo Switch in fall 2021.
8. Death end re;Quest
Compile Heart and Idea Factory announced that Death end re;Quest is coming to Nintendo Switch on April 27, 2021, in the New Game Plus Expo 2021 stream. Take control of game developers Arata Mizunashi and Shina Ninomiya, jumping between the real world and the “World’s Odyssey” video game to discover a strange mystery behind the glitched virtual world. This title boasts multiple endings and a feature that lets you change the game’s genre from a first-person shooter to even a fighting game in combat.
9. Void Terrarium++
Also known as void tRrLM(); //Void Terrarium. Here you play as a robot tasked to protect the last living human, a young girl named Toriko. It was first released on July 14, 2020, for Nintendo Switch, but the PS5 version is coming on May 18 this year. This “++” next-gen rerelease is going to add extra features such as new afflictions, outfits, and a new environment for you to explore.
10. Neptunia ReVerse
Lastly, the first Neptunia game on a next-gen console is coming to PS5 on June 8, 2021. This particular title will be a “definitive remake” of the 2014’s Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1, which was already a remake of the first installment of the series, Hyperdimension Neptunia, in the first place.
